ON THE adrıl- seçlin- HENDIADYS IN YENISEI INSCRIPTIONS

Abstract
Metaphorical narratives and reduplication duals / hendiadys are twoimportant elements that show the development and sophistication of alanguage. It is a long process to point out that the words have to takemetaphorical meanings. A process similar to this is also experienced in the case of reduplication duals/hendiadys. Sometimes, some wordshave been used both in metaphorical narrative and reduplication duals/hendiadys formation. Here, are two of these words are adrıl- andseçlin-. These words, besides their real meanings, in the sense of the"separation of the person from this world and his/her relatives ones, sothe death" has acquired a metaphorical meaning and it has also becamean element of the adrıl- seçlin- reduplication duals/hendiadys. Themeaning of the reduplication duals/hendiadys retains the metaphoricalmeaning of "death" earned by the words. In this article both the wordsadrıl- and seçlin- have been viewed etymologically. Later, inscriptionsand manuscripts with old Turkic script were examined and the semanticdimensions of the words were evaluated. In the last part of the article,adrıl- seçlin- hendiadys was evaluated. The scope of this article is all ofthe inscriptions and manuscripts with old Turkic script.
