Abstract

"Sîret" or more commonly known as "siyer" is the name of the works about the Prophet's life. "Sîret" / "siyer", the first examples of which are in Arabic literature, was started to be written in Turkish literature in the 14th century. The first known work in Turkish literature is Sîretü'n-nebi, written by Darîr in verse-prose in the second half of the 14th century. The first example known today and in full verse is the Sîret written by an author named Muhammed in the 15th century, which is the subject of the study. The presence of many archaic words in the work makes it important for the Turkish language. Many copies and lithographs have beenmade since 872 [1467], when Sîret was written. However, the fact that some copies contain certain parts of the work, and some of them have omissions, substitutions, and additions has made deep differences in their volumes and number of couplets. In addition, in the lithographs of the work, the place of the original author's name was changed. Also, his name was removed from the last part, and the name of the lithographer was added to the end of the first volume. These deficiencies, breaks, and interventions in the copies have led to some misevaluations regarding the determination of the author in some studies, especially in the library records. We have discussed the introduction of the copies and these wrong determinations and their reasons in our previous studies. In some studies, it is emphasized that the "veli (saint)" in the section about the Prophet's death in Sîret is the pseudonym of the author, and then it is pointed out that the name Muhammad is both the author's name and the pseudonym. In another study, it is stated that Abdurrahman is the name of the author. We have found out three publications of the full text transcribed into Latin letters. These issues will be emphasized in the study.
