Abstract

The mountain kult in Dede Korkut Stories depend on the only Tanrz/Gok Tanrz(God, Sky God) belief. In Dede Korkut Stories, a symphony expressing the Turkish life philopsy, the mountain is neither the God nor Godlike. In the Turkish culture, the mountain symbolizes some qualities of God on earth such as greatness, grandeur, magnificence, colour, fertility, shape, power, vegetation etc. But it is never worshiped. The refletions of mountain kult in Dede Korkut Stories follow the same way. We can come across the mountain kult in every stage of life like birth, taking a name, in the ceremonies of demanding the bride from her father, in marriage, providing the state's continuity, in death and in prayers. In Dede Korkut Stories, red mountains symbolize dominance and black mountains symbolize the ground. Kazzlzk Mountain is accepted as the iron pole of earth, combining the ground, underground and the layers of the sky.
