Abstract

The article presents one of the first attempts to read the inscription Jabogan found in the vicinities of the village Jabogan in the Republic Altai. This is one of the most important discoveries of Old Turkic runic inscriptions in the Republic Altai during the last decades. It is one of the longest and best preserved inscriptions in this region. Along with more than one hundred inscriptions that have been discovered here up to now, it proves that the Republic Altai is one of the most important geographical areas where the Old Turkic runic writing tradition had existed. Although there are already several interpretations of this inscription, we cannot say that it has been deciphered in full. Nevertheless, the parts that have been read by now prove that it is an impressive piece of Old Turkic verse
