Abstract

The climatic conditions of societies and, respectively, its flora affected their lives. This influence is evident in the lexical composition of the community language. In the lexical structure of Kipchak Turkic languages, spoken on a geographically wide area, were the names of plants belonging to the local climate. Part of this vocabulary is still used in modern Turkic languages of the Kipchak group. In this study we investigated the names of trees in Kipchak language. The work is limited to specifically fruitless trees. The study attempted to present usage of mentioned names in historical periods as well as their current position in modern Kipchak languages. Based on the work entitled Kipchak Turkish Dictionary (Kıpçak Türkçesi Sözlüğü) by Recep Toparlı the name of each tree was investigated using etymological dictionaries, books and theses on the mentioned subject. Dictionaries, grammar and religious fiqh books written in Kipchak language were taken as the basis for the current work
