On the Necessity of a Standard Transcription System in Dialectology

Abstract

The biggest problem in compilations and publications made by linguists is the lack of a detailed and sufficient standard transcription system. Due to the lack of a standard transcription sysem, each researcher uses different symbols for the compiled texts and their academic works on these texts. Thus, there are more than one symbols for each specific feauture.In this article, it is reminded that there should be one standard transcription system in dialectology in order for all researchers to get efficient results in their studies. For such a transcription system, there should be a phonetics laboratory for the identification of every sound, especially the sounds that cannot be identified by human ear
