Abstract

The historical background of the Turkish studies in Russia displays different stages according to the political changes in the region. The first studies began in 1700s with the Peter I, within the framework of Russian-Ottoman relations. By the time the centers, scholars and the works of Soviet Turkology became multiplied. Depending on the nation of autonomous and independent Turkic Republics in the region, the studies and researches focused on not only about the culture of the Turkic world but also on Turkic languages. Teaching learning process of the Turkish language was strongly supported by the many specific publications on the topic especially in the term of USSR and after the collapse of it. The publications especially the recent ones about teaching Turkish as a foreign language to the speakers of Russian explored and enclosed in this study.
