Abstract

Kitāb at-Tuḥfa az-Zakiyya fi'l-luġa at-Turkiyya is one of the most importantbooks whose purpose is to teach Turkish to foreigners. This book consists of 90 leavesand two chapters, one is Arabic-Turkish dictionary and the other one is grammar.Et-Tuhfetü'z-Zekiyye Fi'l-Lugâti't-Türkiyye'de Farsça Sözcükler-IAlthough the author of the book, the date and the place of writing are still unknown,it's possible to say that at-Tuḥfa az-Zakiyya fi'l-luġa at-Turkiyya is written in the 14thcentury, i.e. the last period of Mamluks, based on the notes on the second and lastpages of the book. The Persian words which are considered as Kipchak words in thebook are given as Turkish equivalents of the Arabic words.In this article, the Persian words in at-Tuḥfa az-Zakiyya fi'l-luġa at-Turkiyya areidentified and the meanings of those words are presented with their equivalents inOttoman Turkish and Kipchak language. The precise number is not certain but about55-60 Persian words have been identified in at-tuḥfa az-zakiyya fi'l-luġa at-Turkiyyaand the words beginning with a-h are presented in this article.
